The drive from Clonakilty to Killarney follows the N71 road, which leads around the Cork coast and then over the Caha Pass into Kerry. It's an unbelievably beautiful road. It passes through the towns of Skibbereen, Bantry and Glengariff in Cork, and the coastal views between the towns are definitely worth seeing.
The Caha Pass through the Caha Mountains must be seen to be believed. The road is stuck on the side of the mountain with a sheer cliff plummeting down beside you. The views of the mountains and valleys are amazing. It's also interesting to see the cars along the road ahead of you where the road has curved around. There are several small tunnels carved out of the mountains.
The road descends to the sea again near Kenmare, where you pick up the last leg of the Ring of Kerry road through Moll's Gap and the Killarney National Park. There was a horse fair in Kenmare when we went through, which brought traffic to a standstill. We stopped there the next day while driving the Ring of Kerry, and had a good time looking at the horses and all the booths set up along the streets.
