The new church built at Cuamba

Nyassa Province has about 1,000 active Presbyterians, 700 of whom live near Cuamba. Unfortunately, the existing church building in Cuamba was inadequate for their needs. It was too small, and the roof leaked when it rained. A new church building was needed. In response, sixteen S.E.R.V.E. volunteers from America answered Cuamba’s call, and came to Niassa Province to help build the church. Working in partnership with community members in Cuamba, the S.E.R.V.E. team started their partnership with the Christian ceremony of laying the first stone of the church, and stayed until the building had a roof over its walls, 28 days later.
Presently, the church is almost completed. It needs only windows, locks for the doors, and paint. However, Cuamba’s distance from a population center makes it difficult and expensive to import fragile materials such as glass. The congregation is currently raising the funds to make the new church functional. Thus, the community at Cuamba must worship a while longer in their old church building while they wait for the final finishing materials for their new church to be consecrated.

Many of the metal parts of the church were taken from the door
of an old car, donated by the pastor, and were shaped with a metal
hammer by SERVE volunteers
