Not all enterprises undertaken by the Projects Department involve big construction sites or are started from scratch. In a poorer country, resources are often needed to maintain what infrastructure already exists. Without money for maintenance, even the most expensive project will become unusable. The projects in Chicumbane are small, but very necessary ones. Many of them involve more labor than materials.
Chicumbane is a strategic location in Gaza Province, and is home to the area hospital. Part of the hospital was destroyed during the war. The church rebuilt that section, reroofed the hospital, and supplied medical equipment. The church has also rehabilitated the existing water system to the health facility, to ensure a reliable water supply. IPM has also helped by having its staff aid with the implementation of the construction of a pediatric ward.
Currently the IPM has only completed the 18th phase of the rehabilitation of the Chicumbane hospital. In the coming 2 years more construction will be undertaken with the remainder of the funds given by donors. The church is in the process of evaluating which projects are most pressing.
